How to beat the Orphan of Kos

Orphan of Kos is the Fishing Hamlet finale of The Old Hunters. Victory gives Kos Parasite and 60,000 echoes in NG. Laurence is a separate optional DLC boss.

Recommended arena: the open shallow water, away from Kos's corpse. Watch your position: the sea has a boundary, not unlimited retreat space.

First phase: short, repeatable punishes

  • Bait a slow uppercut or overhead chop at medium range. Shoot during the committed windup for a parry, or evade past his left side and punish recovery.
  • When a close leap carries him over you, move underneath and turn for a short punish. Do not assume every landing leaves time for a charged backstab.
  • Take one or two hits, then disengage. Heal after an avoided slow attack; panic-healing beside him invites a follow-up.

Second phase: finish dodging first

  • Back away from the winged transformation. Repeated dives can chain: wait for the sequence to finish before committing.
  • A long scream calls lightning from Kos's corpse, not from the boss. Unlock, look toward the beach, and move sideways into a gap between approaching waves. Distance gives more warning.

Finish the nightmare

After the boss dies, strike the dark spirit above Kos's corpse for the Nightmare Slain scene.

Questions

Can both phases be parried?

Yes, on interruptible attacks. A missed attack's recovery is a melee punish window, not a parry window.

Is Kos Parasite ready to use immediately?

Its distinctive moveset needs the Milkweed rune from Adeline's quest, as well as the weapon's Arcane requirement.
