How to beat Amygdala

Nightmare Frontier Amygdala drops the Ailing Loran Chalice. The fixed Defiled Chalice version is on layer 3 and drops Great Pthumeru Ihyll instead. Building-clinging Amygdalae are not these boss encounters.

Recommended approach: learn the head-punish loop before attempting the under-body jump bait. Legs and tail take very little damage; hitting them is not equivalent to reaching the head.

Head-punish loop

  • Wait in front outside its arm reach. Bait an overhead slam, let the hands finish landing, then strike the lowered head and retreat.
  • Run sideways from lasers and keep off their delayed explosions. Later slams also explode: do not rush into the first impact.
  • Enough head damage opens a frontal visceral; head-targeted gunfire is an alternative when it is too high for melee.

After the arms come off

  • The clubs greatly extend frontal reach. Unlock, work beneath the left thigh and watch for stomps rather than trading in front.
  • For jump bait, start just beyond the tail on clear ground and stop as it jumps; its landing can put the head ahead of you. Reposition if walls disrupt the setup.

Defiled is not Frontier

The curse halves maximum HP. Leave extra room for explosions, take short punishes, and reset away from the walls; copying a Frontier corner position is unsafe.

Questions

Is Amygdala Kin?

No for Kinhunter damage bonuses. Its Great One identity is not the same as the game's Kin damage category.

Is the tail the weak point?

No. Use tail-side positioning to bait a jump, not to spend the fight damaging the tail.
