How to beat Mergo's Wet Nurse
Mergo's Wet Nurse is the required boss at the top of the Nightmare of Mensis. Victory awards a One Third of Umbilical Cord and 72,000 blood echoes; the echo reward stays fixed in later journeys.
Recommended plan: punish from directly behind, disengage during the clone veil, then repeat. These are source-based tactics, not a claim of a personal test run.
Read the blades, then punish
- At close range, dodge through a committed slash toward her rear. Take a short attack sequence, then recover stamina.
- The rapid frontal blender keeps advancing. If still in front, retreat until it ends; if already directly behind, punish without drifting alongside the blades.
- After a teleport, locate her before approaching. Heal after an avoided combo, not while her delayed slash is winding up.
Survive the dark clone veil
- When darkness brings a second attacker, unlock and run counter-clockwise around the perimeter. Steer clear of columns and stairs; preserve stamina instead of attacking.
- Keep moving until visibility returns, then reacquire the real boss. If clones keep catching you, stop cutting across the arena or pausing to swing.
Questions
Does killing the Wet Nurse end the game?
No. Return to the Hunter's Dream for the ending choice. Finish exploration before accepting an ending.
Do I need to use the cord?
For Childhood's Beginning, consume at least three cords before defeating Gehrman; merely carrying them is insufficient.
