How Insight works

Insight is not a score. It is a currency and a world flag. The cap is 99. The first point wakes the Plain Doll, opens the Insight bath messengers, and gives you the Beckoning Bell and a Silencing Blank.

I tracked the effects I could cite and left the folklore. Higher Insight reduces beasthood and frenzy resistance according to the community stat tables. The Witch of Hemwick fight spawns Mad Ones if you still hold Insight. You spend Insight to summon and to buy from the bath. That spending is the reliable way to bring the number down. I am not adding unverified “get grabbed on purpose” tricks.

Getting the first point

Gain your first point by encountering a boss or using Madman’s Knowledge, then return to the Dream. This unlock is permanent for that character: the Doll can still level you after you spend your Insight back to zero.

Later sources include boss kills, some items, and certain areas once your total is high enough for the world to change. A full acquisition table was not copied here.
