Patches the Spider

Patches the Spider is the NPC behind the Tonsil Stone and the Nightmare Frontier trap, not software patch 1.09. His quest leads from a disguised window conversation to the Lecture Building, where a later face-to-face meeting gives a gesture and a rune.

Do not confuse hearing his voice through an occupied house with seeing a spider standing in the Forbidden Woods. The quest uses several locations, and the Lecture Building's first-floor locked door is reached from above later in the story.

Tonsil Stone and the first floor

After entering the Forbidden Woods, speak at an eligible occupied window or door to receive the Tonsil Stone from Patches in disguise. With it in your inventory, let the Amygdala at the entrance of Yahar'gul grab you to reach the Lecture Building first floor. This is not the separate DLC grab outside Oedon Chapel.

The trap and the later conversation

From the first floor you can enter the Nightmare Frontier, where Patches lures you toward treasure and knocks you into poison. Later, after reaching the Lecture Building second floor, use the hatch behind the Church Giant to descend into his room.

Speak to him face-to-face for Beg for Life, then exhaust the further dialogue to receive the Anticlockwise Metamorphosis rune. Talk again after each response instead of leaving after the first apology. Killing him is not required for these quest rewards.

Questions

Is this the 1.09 patch?

No. This page is about Patches the Spider. Software update information belongs on the PS4/platform pages.

What does Patches give?

His quest supplies the Tonsil Stone, then Beg for Life and an Anticlockwise Metamorphosis rune through the later Lecture Building conversation. Do not stop talking after receiving only the gesture.
