Djura of the tower
Djura guards Old Yharnam from the gatling tower. You can fight him for the Powder Keg Hunter Badge or approach peacefully for the badge and Brush Off Dust gesture. The peaceful route depends on encountering Paarl and approaching from behind, not on wearing a special outfit.
The route here follows the data wiki's published conditions, not a claim of a fresh playtest. Defeating Paarl is a convenient way to open the rear entrance, although the wiki says encountering him is enough when the Church of the Good Chalice route is already available.
One practical peaceful route
Encounter Darkbeast Paarl through Hypogean Gaol / Yahar'gul. Defeat him and open the large door to lower Old Yharnam, or use the Church of the Good Chalice lamp after the encounter if you have already defeated the Blood-starved Beast.
Approach the tower from the lower district, using the rear ladder route without passing through Djura's firing line. Do not attack him or the beasts on the approach. Climb to the top and speak when he leaves the gun.
Choose to spare the beasts of Old Yharnam. He gives the Powder Keg Hunter Badge and Brush Off Dust gesture. Attacking the district's inhabitants after the agreement can make him hostile again, so leave peacefully rather than testing the promise.
If you choose to fight
Killing Djura also yields the badge, but not the friendship gesture. Neither killing nor befriending him is required for the main ending. Leave the tower alone on the first visit if you want to preserve the peaceful route.
Questions
Can I befriend Djura after he shot at me?
Yes. His initial shooting does not rule out friendship. Encounter Paarl, return by the rear route without alerting him, then choose to spare the beasts.
Do I need special clothing?
No outfit requirement is part of the cited route. The conditions are the Paarl encounter, rear approach and peaceful dialogue. Keep the beasts unharmed after the agreement.
