How to start the DLC
The Old Hunters does not start when you buy it. Defeat Vicar Amelia, examine the skull in the Grand Cathedral, take the Eye of a Blood-drunk Hunter from the messengers in the Hunter’s Dream, then stand in the Cathedral Ward plaza and let the Lesser Amygdala grab you.
I wrote the steps as a list I could follow without a video. Beat Amelia. Check the altar skull so the world turns to night. Go back to the Dream and pick up the Eye. Return to the left-hand plaza in Cathedral Ward, outside Oedon Chapel, and get grabbed. You wake in the Hunter’s Nightmare. Light the lamp. Old saves and NG+ use the same Eye step. There is no hard Blood Level gate. The cited community guide recommends roughly BL80 with a +9 right-hand weapon as a more forgiving starting point, not a developer-enforced requirement.
Order of operations
Buying the DLC after Amelia is already dead still works. The Eye appears once the skull has been checked and night has fallen. You do not need a new file.
The grab is easy to miss because it looks like the scenery Amygdalae. Leave Oedon Chapel through the left exit into the Well area and stand where the Hunter attire set was found so the chapel Amygdala grabs you. If the grab does not transport you, check that the Eye is in your inventory and that you are using this Amygdala, not a different one.
Questions
What level should I be?
There is no hard level requirement. The community wiki reproduces a guide recommendation of about Blood Level 80 and a +9 right-hand weapon for a balanced first visit. Skilled low-level runs are possible; this is preparation advice, not a mandatory gate.
I beat Amelia and nothing happened.
Examine the skull on the altar, collect the Eye in the Dream, then return to the Cathedral Ward plaza.
